World Diabetes Day (WDD) is celebrated annually on November 14. Led by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), World Diabetes Day was created by IDF and the World Health Organization in response to growing concerns about the escalating health threat posed by diabetes.
Diabetes is a huge and growing burden. Globally approx 415 million adults were living with diabetes in 2015 and this number is expected to increase to around 642 million or one in ten adults by 2040. Unfortunately India has around 65.1 million diabetic patients which had made India known as ‘Diabetic Capital of the world”.
Biggest concern is that 1 in 2 adults with diabetes remain undiagnosed. This brings us to theme of this year’s ‘Eye On Diabetes’. To strengthen our fight against diabetes, we in association with Radio Mirchi organized ‘Mirchi Global Diabetes Corners’ and we thank Ahmedabad for overwhelming support.
Taking our fight to next level against diabetes, we want to focus on preventive measures for pre diabetic individuals. Shockingly there are estimated 77.2 million pre diabetic individuals in India. Pre-diabetic means that your blood sugar level is higher than normal but not yet high to be classified as diabetes. Without intervention, pre-diabetes is likely to become diabetic in 10 years or less.
We at Global Hospital are committed to ensure ongoing campaign against diabetes.
“We conceived Idea of Global hospital with context of Sarve Santu Niramaya. This context enabled us to provide world class treatment to our patients but at the same time Global hospital have its moral responsibility of prevention of diseases and it includes early detection and working on holistic plan in preventing lifestyle diseases. Identification of pre-diabetic and high risk people is very essential. Screening them and educating them is paramount in such cases. Healthy lifestyle is the key to control the epidemic of diabetes” – says Dr. Anant Yadav, Renowned Diabetologist & Chairman Global Hospital.
